Etsy's fees in 2026

The rates this calculator uses. Etsy last revised its fees policy on 13 February 2026; the headline rates have not moved since the 6.5% transaction fee was set in April 2022. The regulatory operating fee is the part that changes most often.

Regulatory operating fee — updated 22 June 2026

Etsy announced these changes on 22 April 2026 and they took effect on 22 June 2026. France more than doubled, Italy rose 2.5×, and Hungary got the fee for the first time. Most fee calculators online are still showing the old figures — we checked.

Vietnam1.24%1.24%Unchanged
Canada and Vietnam were not part of the 22 June 2026 announcement, so their rates are carried forward from the previous schedule rather than confirmed as re-published. One source gives Canada 0.50% where the rest give 1.15% — we use 1.15%. If you sell from either country, confirm the current figure in your Etsy payment account before relying on it.

Payment processing by country

The 6.5% transaction fee is the same everywhere. Payment processing is where your country changes the maths — and where the flat fee quietly hurts cheap items.

Why the price of your item changes everything

Etsy's fixed costs — the $0.20 listing fee and the $0.25 payment fee — don't scale with your price. That makes cheap items structurally expensive to sell. US seller, no Offsite Ads, free shipping.

$49.99$0.20$3.25$1.75$5.2010.4%
$99.99$0.20$6.50$3.25$9.959.9%
On a $4.99 download you lose 18.5% to fees. On a $99.99 item you lose 9.9%. Same platform, same rates — the difference is entirely the fixed fees. If you sell digital products under $5, fees are eating nearly a fifth of every sale before you've made anything.

How the fees compound

Offsite Ads is the big swing

Core fees run about 10%. Add a 15% Offsite Ads fee and the same sale costs 25%+ — more than double. It's the single number that decides whether a low-margin product is viable on Etsy at all.

You can't opt out forever

Under $10,000 in trailing 12-month sales you can switch Offsite Ads off. At $10,000 it becomes permanent — and the rate only drops from 15% to 12%.

The $100 cap matters

Offsite Ads is capped at $100 per order. On a $900 item, 12% would be $108 — you pay $100. High-ticket sellers get relief; $25–$100 sellers get almost none.

Questions sellers actually ask

Does Etsy charge its 6.5% on shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee applies to the item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer, plus gift wrap and personalisation. It does not apply to the sales tax Etsy collects on your behalf. Building shipping into your price instead of charging it separately makes no difference to the fee — it applies to the total either way.

Why do fees hurt so much more on cheap items?

Because two of the three core fees are fixed, not proportional: $0.20 per listing and $0.25 per payment. Together that's $0.45 no matter what you sell. On a $4.99 item that's 9% of your revenue before any percentage fee applies; on a $99.99 item it's 0.45%. This is the single biggest structural disadvantage for digital sellers pricing low.

Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?

If your shop made under $10,000 in the previous 365 days, yes — Shop Manager → Settings → Offsite Ads → turn it off. At $10,000 or above, enrolment is mandatory and permanent, even if your revenue later falls back below the threshold. The rate drops from 15% to 12% at that point.

Is the Offsite Ads fee charged instead of, or on top of, the transaction fee?

On top of it. An Offsite Ads-attributed order pays the listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing as normal, and then adds 15% (or 12%) on top. We checked this against multiple independent breakdowns and they agree. One popular guide claims the 15% replaces the transaction fee — that is wrong, and it understates the real cost of an ad sale by about 6.5 percentage points. This calculator stacks them.

What's the difference between Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads?

Etsy Ads run inside Etsy's own search results on a cost-per-click basis — you set a daily budget from $1 and pay per click whether or not it converts. Offsite Ads run on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Bing, and you only pay when a click leads to a purchase within 30 days. They're separate programmes with separate billing.

Do I pay the $0.20 listing fee once per listing or per sale?

Per unit sold. Publish a listing with a quantity of 5 and sell all five, and you pay 5 × $0.20 = $1.00 in listing fees, not $0.20. The listing auto-renews for the next available unit each time one sells. We found one calculator claiming the fee only triggers when the whole quantity sells out — that is wrong, and it understates listing costs for multi-quantity listings by a factor of the quantity. Single-quantity listings are unaffected: you pay $0.20 once, plus $0.20 if it renews after four months unsold.

How do I price so fees don't eat my margin?

Work backwards from the profit you want, not forwards from your cost. Switch to "Work out my price" above, or use the dedicated pricing calculator which also handles margin targets and shows the charm-price version.
